A very nice Sunday...

Today's been really good. My brother and his family came over to watch the Colts game and to have dinner. I hadn't seen him in awhile, and it's always great to see my little ones. I had some UFC 119 stuff to give him, plus told him about all that went on (I gave him the link to here so he can read it for himself now :D). It was nice catching up a bit, playing with the kids some, and watching the game. The Colts won, but didn't play so well on offense. I'll be happy with the W, though.

My brother just got a new (to him) laptop, and I added some anti-virus software and updated Windows for him. That took much longer than it should. Everything was working fine when I was done, but he couldn't get Windows to load when he got back to OH (for work). He doesn't know much about computers, and is a understandably pissed that now there are issues when it was fine before. I'm still working on a way to fix it--I'm not sure why it's messing up--but there's not a lot I can do from here. It's looking like he'll have to wait until he comes back to Indy (hopefully next weekend) to get it repaired. The particular error doesn't make much sense, especially since it was fine when I was done with it (I made sure everything worked). I do feel bad that he's having trouble with it. He's not the most patient person, especially about stuff he doesn't know much about, so we'll see how things go. I'll be on the case until we get something together that works for him.

I'm still hoping to cut my hair tonight, and I still need to wash my bedding. It's looking OK that I'll get at least one of those done. I still want to do an op-ed thing, too, so it'll be cool if that works out. I have a couple topics in mind, so as long as I'm feeling alright and don't get too distracted, that should up later tonight sometime. Otherwise, it's just the usual TV and messing around online for the rest of the night.

It's really nice when things go well like they did today. It sucks about the PC issues, but I appreciate the family time. I could feel better, and I'm sure it'll hit me before too long, but I'm feeling OK now. I am hungry, though, so I think I'll go work on fixing something to eat.

Thanks again for checking this out, I really appreciate it! Really :D!

Colts lost...doc today...

Well, the Colts lost yesterday. Tackling was a big issue. So was ball security. Then the Jaguars kicker hits a 59 yard FG to win it. I'm not overly worried about the season, but being 0-2 in the division isn't ideal. We'll be alright, I think.

I saw my ENT doc today. It was just a follow-up to check on some swollen lymph nodes. They were biopsied last time, and everything was fine, but they're still a bit enlarged. They doctor isn't worried about them, so neither am I. If anything fishy is going on, it should show up on the MRI I'm having done on Friday for the tumor stuff. We're not expecting anything, but they could go in and remove the nodes if something looks too crazy on the scans. No biggie. This appointment was timed well, too, because of the extra congestion and nose bleeds I'm dealing with. He told me to just use some Bacitracin ointment to help heal up things and I should be fine. We discussed some different nasal sprays to help with the congestion and drainage, but they all dry me out pretty badly, so we'll stick with the status quo there. Too, depending on how it may affect tumor treatment, I'll probably have my deviated septum fixed soon. My nose is pretty jacked up. It's a fairly simple outpatient procedure. The hope is that it'll help with my breathing. It's especially difficult when I'm in bed. I'm happy with how the appointment went.

My sleep is still way off. I'm tired all the time. And the headaches are getting a little worse, but I can't handle taking that medicine twice a day. I don't know if the last couple weeks are still catching up with me or what. It's not like I have a lot to do and my work is being affected or anything, but it is annoying that I'm always so tired. I do have a few things that I could do (and want to do) to be productive. Plus, I already feel bad enough with the wooziness. Enh...I don't know. I just cleaned my humidifier and have it running now. Hopefully that'll help.

That's it for now. I think I'm going to try to catch up on some TV tonight. If I'm feeling OK, I'm hoping to post again later on, more of a stand alone piece about a yet-to-be-determined topic. If there's anything you want to know or if there's any particular subject you'd like to hear my take on, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

ND 31 BC 13

Today was alright. My sleep's still off, and I was too woozy to shower or do much of anything that I wanted, but it's been much worse. I caught up on a lot of TV, but still have a lot more to watch. Most importantly, Notre Dame won! It's especially nice to beat Boston College. The defense played well. The offense looked good in the first quarter, then...I don't know. I'll take a win any way it comes. Up next is Pitt, then I'll be going up to the Western Michigan game the following week. Who else will be there for WMU? It'll be my first time back to campus since the 2002 Pitt game, and it'd be nice to see a few familiar faces. Once I know the itinerary, I'll let you know, but the tentative plan is to get there Saturday morning.

That pretty much rounds out my report for today. My last post wasn't even 8 hours ago, but I did want to get back in the habit of writing these before I go to bed. There's not too much on the agenda for Sunday. My mom's friend is having a little party for my mom in the afternoon. If I'm feeling alright, I'll go to that. The Colts play at 4PM, so I'll catch that. I have a legal questionnaire I need to finish, as well as some SSI phone interview preparation (mainly just getting my info together). For the SSI stuff, I'm filing a new claim in case the old one doesn't pan out. There's a chance the new one will get approved before the old one is resolved, so I'd be getting some money sooner. Or it could be another long, painful mess that begins shortly. We'll see.

I was thinking about talking about something else this time, perhaps how I'm so disillusioned by the political process (brought on after watching Real Time with Bill Maher), but now my eyes hurt....grrr...maybe another time.

Happy Sunday, Go Colts, and thanks to all who read and comment :)!

Colts won...

I woke up around noon today, after only a couple hours of sleep. I got up to go to the bathroom, and I knew I wouldn't be able to go back to bed. I was still tired, but I was up. The plan was to get up at 4PM, take my meds, then get ready to tailgate for the Colts game. My buddy got back to me and said he wasn't going because of the weather, though it ended up be alright, so I just watched football, messed around online, had a nice chat with a new friend, and chilled at home. I started to crash around 5PM or so, but I was really enjoying the conversation I was having, then it was time for supper, then there was the game, so I wasn't able to take a nap. I was really tired by the kickoff. I turned my TV around so I could watch from bed, and lay down.

I missed about half of the game, in total, dozing off, waking up, trying to fight to stay awake. Had the game been closer, it would have been easier for me to pay attention and stay conscious, but they Colts were firing on all cylinders and had the game in hand fairly early. I'm still bummed that I didn't see the whole performance, but I'm happy with the win. We're going to be very tough to beat when we play that well.

After the game, I went ahead and slept until 4AM, when I had to take my meds again. I thought about crashing for another hour or two, but figured I might as well stay up. I wanted to read the game summaries to see what I missed, catch up on Facebook and Twitter, and get a couple of things done. I cleaned the filter on my AC unit, trimmed my toenails, and surfed the web. I'll make my TV schedule for the week once I post this. A lot of shows that I watch, plus some new ones that I'll check out, premiere this week. I'm kinda hoping that most of the new ones aren't that good. I already watch too much TV, so adding new shows won't help that. But I don't have much else going on, so whatever.

I have an appointment with my family doctor today. It's weird calling her my family doctor when my family, in this case, just consists of me. It's just a check up, nothing to worry about. I can't even think of anything specific to complain about this time, which is rare. I'll mainly just make sure I'm up to date on medicine refills and let them know what's going on with my specialty doctors. I started taking fish oil recently to help raise my 'good' cholesterol levels since I can't be too active, so we might do a little bloodwork and see if that's helping. Despite it being a doctor's appointment, I like visiting the clinic. The people there are nice and I like the doctors. I wonder if they'll start a new volume of my chart. They're on at least the 2nd now, maybe the the third, and each one is a couple inches thick. I'm a mess, and I have the paperwork to prove it ;).

Happy Monday,

The Fever lost :(

The good news of the day is that I caught up on some sleep. I don't feel very refreshed from it, but I guess it's better than not having slept. I'll take it. Also, my buddy stopped by to help me look at my sports cards. We still have no idea what they're worth, but at least he has a better idea of what I have. That goes for both of us, actually, since I hadn't looked at them in forever. The next step is determining their value (any help would be much appreciated!!!). I'll be looking around online to see if there's any free place (I've just been lazy about searching) that can help. If push comes to shove, I guess I can go to a card shop and see what's offered there.

The bad news is that the Fever lost, so our ("our," even in defeat) season is now over. It's disappointing, but I'm still proud of the gals. We were just too inconsistent and gave up too many rebounds. Not being able to hit a shot down the stretch didn't help, nor did some less-than-stellar officiating. If we hit a couple more shots and/or stop them a few more times, then the whistles wouldn't matter as much. Live and learn, watch out for us next year!

It'll be interesting what we do in the offseason. Especially after re-signing a bunch of players already recently, I doubt we'll make any major moves. The only can't-miss college prospect I can think of is Maya Moore from UConn (oh, how it hurts to type that), and unless we make a huge deal, we're not getting her. I'm not sure if (veteran Aussie PG) Tully Bevilaqua is coming back, but I think it's more likely that she gives it one more year. That's not a done deal, though. Whatever happens, I'll be there to cheer them on next summer!

So now it's Phoenix and Seattle out west, and Atlanta and New York in the east. I don't like NY or Phoenix, so I guess I'm rooting for Atlanta over Seattle in the Finals. Seattle's won before, plus a successful team in the ATL would be good. I do hope for good TV ratings the rest of the way, whoever wins. The WNBA needs support, the players deserve it (most of them, anyway), and the more popular the league is, the healthier it is, and the better it is for the Fever.

There's the Colts preseason game tomorrow. I hear that the starters won't play. I'll tune in, just because it's football. Hopefully those who do play represent themselves well as they fight for roster spots and playing time. Maybe a guy will stick out and make an impact. Because of a college football game, the Bellator fights will be tape-delayed on Fox Sports. I was under the impression that wouldn't happen anymore, but whatever. I'll just have to avoid the results for a few hours. I'm not sure who else is on the card, but the main event is interesting: Joe Soto (champ) vs. Joe Warren for the 145 pound title. Soto won Bellator's the first tournament for that weight class, and Warren the second one earn the title shot. I've heard good things about Soto, but haven't seen him fight, yet. He was a college roommate of Jon "Bones" Jones, and actually got him into MMA. Warren is a world class wrestler and a tough dude, so it'll be a good scrap.

And Notre Dame kicks off the season on Saturday against Purdue! I'm really excited for that! I like what I've seen and heard from Coach Kelly so far, and I think we have a decent team returning from last year. It'll be interesting to see how the adjustments to/by new coaching regime work out. I think Purdue will be a good test, too. I really wish I could be there to catch the game in person. I haven't been back to campus in so long.

Whoa, I just realized that it's been since the fall of 2002. I've been too sick and broke to make the boring trip up US 31 since. I've heard and read and seen pictures of how much the campus has changed with new buildings and everything. I can't believe it was 13 years ago that my parents dropped me off at my dorm, the great Sorin College (GO OTTERS!!!). Wow...was it really that long ago? I still miss sitting on the porch swings people watching, avoiding the sprinklers at night (even when it was already raining), watching the sunset while walking to the dining hall, the excitement of football Saturdays. I don't miss early classes, homework, not being able to do homework because my eyes hurt, those damn bells every 15 minutes from the Basilica (which is right next to Sorin for non-Domers), alumni barging into my room while I was getting dressed on football Saturdays showing their kids and grandkids where they lived as undergrads, parietals (opposite sex out of non-public dorm space after midnight on weekdays, 2AM weekends), or underclassmen who can't hold their liquor. I miss being around people, being around smart people, walking around the lakes, cheering at the games (and not just football for me), working the late shift at the Huddle Mart, having more of a future to look forward to. I don't miss getting hit in the nuts every time I did the push-ups after an ND score, but I do miss being in that situation ;).

Thanks to the Fever for a good summer, my only consistent out-of-the-house distraction! We'll get'em next year! And I'll do my best to hook more people into coming out and support you like you deserve! Now it's time for football season, so GO COLTS! And, more importantly, GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!

Proud Fever Fanatic, Colts fan (even when they sucked!), and ND Alum,
-B :)
